Only 20% of people in Austria regularly use preventive services, while at-home tests are seen as an attractive option for prevention — according to a new Gallup study
As the first retail partner in Austria, BIPA launches three new at-home tests from the healthcare company MavieMe starting April 16
Three at-home health tests: analysis of selected blood values related to women’s health, longevity, and nutrients
Includes an easy-to-understand digital results report and optional online medical consultation
82% of people in Austria say they actively engage with the topic of health, yet fewer than 20% regularly use preventive services — not only due to lack of time (14%), but also because many only act when they are already ill (31%) or perceive preventive measures as unpleasant (28%). At the same time, 45% of people in Austria see at-home health tests as an attractive way to regularly check their health. These findings come from a recent representative Gallup survey in Austria with 1,000 participants on the topic of prevention.
Together with MavieMe, part of the holistic healthcare provider Mavie, BIPA is responding with a unique offering in Austria: As the first retail partner, the drugstore chain is adding at-home health tests to its product range. Starting April 16, three new tests will be available in all BIPA stores as well as in the online shop. The tests are intentionally designed as a low-threshold preventive solution: customers collect their blood sample conveniently at home, send it by post to an accredited partner laboratory, and usually receive the results within 7 working days as an easy-to-understand digital health report. The results can then be discussed in an optional online consultation with physicians. The offering provides an initial insight into selected health markers, strengthens personal responsibility, and can serve as a complement to individual preventive care.
Markus Geyer, Managing Director of BIPA: “We are proud to be the first retail company in Austria to make this offering accessible to our customers. Preventive healthcare should not fail due to effort or access — and that is exactly what we are addressing with the MavieMe tests. What I particularly appreciate is that, with the included option of online medical consultation, our customers are not left alone with their results. In this form, this is unique in Austrian retail and offers real added value.”
Fanni Schmidt, Managing Director of MavieMe: “The latest Gallup data clearly shows that there is a strong demand for low-threshold preventive solutions. At the same time, the many positive responses from our customers confirm how valuable at-home health tests can be as a first insight into one’s own health. We are therefore very pleased to make MavieMe at-home tests even more accessible together with our strong partner BIPA.”
The new range includes three at-home health tests covering different health areas, available at BIPA for €149 per test, including online medical consultation:
Women’s Health Check:
Analysis of selected hormone, iron, and vitamin levels, providing an initial insight into blood values particularly relevant for women
Longevity Check:
Analysis of selected markers related to lipid metabolism, hormonal balance, and inflammation status, often considered in relation to the cardiovascular system, metabolism, and inflammatory processes
Nutrient Check:
Analysis of selected micronutrients such as vitamins B12 and D, magnesium, and ferritin, which provides insight into iron stores in the body
Fanni Schmidt, Managing Director of MavieMe: “We are pleased to create a low-threshold offering together with BIPA that provides initial insights into three key areas of health. Especially in women’s health, the demand is clear: according to the current Gallup study, two-thirds of women in Austria see at-home tests as a valuable tool for gaining initial orientation.”
A key advantage of the new MavieMe tests at BIPA: those who would like to discuss their results beyond the comprehensive report with included reference values can optionally use an online consultation. This is conducted exclusively by independent, licensed physicians in Austria and is included in the price of the test. During the consultation, results can be explained, individual questions clarified, and further medical evaluation recommended if necessary. The tests are also suitable for regular use to track changes in selected values over time.
Eva Paschinger, Head of Medical Devices & Category at BIPA: “We have been observing strong growth in the areas of medical products and dietary supplements for some time. Many customers want to actively support their health — but often don’t know where to start or what they actually need. With around 700 products in the medical and OTC categories, including our BI LIFE private label, we are already well positioned. The MavieMe self-tests complement this range in a targeted way: they provide scientifically based guidance so that our customers can choose the products they really need in the next step.”
Important note: The tests provide insights into selected blood values, help to understand relationships, and offer initial orientation for personal health. They do not provide a diagnosis or treatment recommendation and are not a substitute for medical examination.
About the survey: The survey conducted by the market research institute Gallup Austria examined the importance of preventive healthcare in the Austrian population and expectations regarding health checks. It is based on a representative online survey (CAWI) of 1,000 people aged 18 and over, conducted within Gallup’s proprietary online panel in accordance with ISO 20252 standards. The survey was carried out between March 20 and April 1, 2026. The sample represents the web-active population of Austria in terms of gender, age, region, and socioeconomic characteristics: 49% of respondents are male, 51% female; the age range spans from 18 to over 65. The sample is also balanced regionally and by place of residence size.
