At-Home Health Prevention: BIPA Brings MavieMe Home Health Tests to Retail
Only 20% of Austrians regularly use preventive health services, while at-home tests are seen as an attractive prevention tool, according to a new Gallup study
As the first retail partner in Austria, BIPA launches three new at-home tests from healthcare company MavieMe on April 16
Three at-home health tests: analysis of selected blood markers related to women’s health, longevity, and nutrient status
Includes an easy-to-understand digital results report and optional online medical consultation
82% of Austrians say they consciously engage with their health, yet fewer than 20% regularly make use of preventive health services—not only because of a lack of time (14%), but also because many only take action once they become ill (31%) or perceive preventive measures as unpleasant (28%). At-home health tests are considered an attractive way to regularly monitor health by 45% of Austrians. These findings come from a recent representative Gallup survey of 1,000 participants in Austria on the topic of prevention.
Together with MavieMe, part of the holistic healthcare provider Mavie, BIPA is responding with a unique offering in Austria. As the first retail partner, the drugstore chain is adding at-home health tests to its product range. Starting April 16, three new tests will be available in all BIPA stores as well as in the online shop. The tests are deliberately designed as a low-threshold preventive health solution: customers collect their blood sample conveniently at home, send it by mail to an accredited partner laboratory, and typically receive their results within seven business days in the form of an easy-to-understand digital health report. The results can then be discussed with a physician during an optional online consultation. The offering provides an initial insight into selected health markers, encourages personal responsibility, and can serve as a valuable complement to individual preventive healthcare.
“We are proud to be the first retailer in Austria to make this offering accessible to our customers. Preventive healthcare should not fail because of effort or access—and that is exactly what the MavieMe tests address. What I particularly appreciate is that customers are not left alone with their results thanks to the included online medical consultation. In this form, it is unique in Austrian retail and provides real added value.”
Markus Geyer, Managing Director of BIPA
“The latest Gallup data clearly shows that demand for low-threshold preventive health solutions exists. At the same time, the many positive responses from our customers confirm how valuable health tests can be as a first insight into personal health. We are therefore delighted to make MavieMe home health tests even more accessible to more people together with our strong partner BIPA.”
Fanni Schmidt, Managing Director of MavieMe
Three Tests, One Goal: An Initial Insight into and Orientation for Your Health
The new range includes three at-home health tests covering different health areas, available at BIPA for €149 per test, including online medical consultation:
Women's Health Check: Analysis of selected hormone, iron, and vitamin levels, providing an initial insight into blood markers particularly relevant to women’s health.
Longevity Check: Analysis of selected markers related to lipid metabolism, hormonal balance, and inflammation status, which are commonly considered in connection with cardiovascular health, metabolic health, and inflammatory processes.
Nutrient Check: Analysis of selected micronutrients, including vitamins B12 and D, magnesium, and ferritin, which provides information about the body's iron stores.
“We are pleased to create a low-threshold offering together with BIPA that provides initial insights into three important areas of health. Women’s health in particular highlights the need: according to the current Gallup study, two-thirds of women in Austria see at-home tests as an exciting tool for gaining initial orientation.”
Fanni Schmidt, Managing Director of MavieMe
A particular advantage of the new MavieMe tests at BIPA is the optional online consultation included in the purchase price. Anyone wishing to discuss their results beyond the comprehensive report and included reference ranges can speak with an independent physician licensed in Austria.
During the consultation, results can be reviewed, individual questions addressed, and further medical evaluation recommended if necessary. The tests are also suitable for repeated use, allowing users to track changes in selected health markers over time.
“We have observed significant growth in the medical devices and dietary supplements category for quite some time. Many customers want to actively support their health but often do not know where to start or what they actually need. With around 700 products in the medical and OTC categories, including our BI LIFE private label, we are already well positioned. The MavieMe self-tests complement this range perfectly by providing scientifically based guidance, helping customers choose the products they truly need in the next step.”
Eva Paschinger, Managing Director for Medical Devices & Category at BIPA
Important Information: The tests provide insights into selected blood markers, help users understand health-related connections, and offer initial guidance regarding their health. The tests do not provide a diagnosis or treatment recommendation and are not a substitute for a medical examination.
About the Survey: The survey, conducted by market research institute Gallup Austria, examined the importance of preventive healthcare among the Austrian population and expectations regarding health checks.
The findings are based on a representative online survey (CAWI) of 1,000 individuals aged 18 and older, conducted via Gallup’s proprietary online panel in accordance with ISO 20252 standards.
The survey was carried out between March 20 and April 1, 2026. The sample reflects Austria’s online-active population in terms of gender, age, region, and socioeconomic characteristics: 49% of respondents are male and 51% female, with ages ranging from 18 to over 65 years. The sample is also balanced by region and community size.
